Shortcuts from the “Project Listing”

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

You can navigate to any section of a Project from the “Project Listing” page.

1. Go to the “Project Listing” page by clicking either on the “Project” Tab or on the “Project Listings” link on the main page.

2. There are a number of icons on the right side of the Project Lists for all the projects. Using these icons you can navigate directly into a particular section (e.g. Task, Issues etc.) within a Project.

Not everyone can see all icons as they are permission-based.  If a user does not have access to the “Team” section he cannot see the “View Project Team” icon and similarly he will not see the “edit/delete” link if he does not have permission to edit or delete the project.

Sometimes it does not hurt to save a click or two!

Better Workplace for Better Work

Monday, February 16th, 2009

A few improvements in the workplace can go a long way in relaxing the environment for your team and probably boost productivity in the long term.

It is not necessary to go for big renovation jobs to change the ambiance of your office. Here are some simple tips towards making a better and lively work environment.

  • Changing the look of your office. This can easily be achieved by putting some accessories like candles, flower vases, pretty picture frames or toys (the free stuff you get at conventions/conferences).
  • Using scented candles and incense sticks can be very refreshing while working! Generally lemon or lavender are the preferred scents.
  • Listening to music something light and soothing. If others are not in the mood for it then you can use head phones.
  • Have comfortable desk chairs and places around the office to lounge and catch up with your colleagues.
  • Keeping the place neat and tidy will give a more organized and coordinated feel to your work. Moreover people will also appreciate this. Seeing a mess on the desk or elsewhere in a office can be a big turn off and it would make you feel overwhelmed and stressed.
  • Clear your computer Desktop icons from time to time. You don’t want to see those Word documents floating around whenever your reboot your machine. Additionally, why not try a soothing wallpaper?
  • Plants are a great help, since they provide a very organic and healthy look to the office. Bamboos are considered to increase productivity of the work place and are considered lucky. :) Give it a try and watch what happens..
  • Instead of your regular tea/coffee why not have an assortment of green teas - relaxing and good for your health.
  • Making the place look like its your own by putting family photographs or other things important to you around the place, giving it a personalized and a homely touch.

Sync your DeskAway Calendar with Outlook

Monday, February 9th, 2009

While I use DeskAway to manage my work-related projects, I also use Outlook to manage my Mails and Outlook Calendar to keep track of my other appointments that fall outside of the work I manage on DeskAway.

DeskAway also has a very helpful Calendar, which helps me track my deadlines, milestones, events and important dates related to my projects.

As I used both DeskAway Calendar and Outlook Calendar, there was one problem that I faced sometime back. If I forgot to lookup the Calendar on my DeskAway account, I found myself slipping on an important event or a deadline. I figured out the reason for this was that I was used to the “Reminder Pop-ups” that my Outlook had, which was not there on my DeskAway.

This is when I found out about Subscribe to iCalendar feature available on DeskAway. This allows me to sync my Deskaway Calendar with my Outlook Calendar in just one click. Now that I have subscribed to iCalendar, I can view my DeskAway Calendar on my Outlook. I can now get reminders of my DA tasks too from my Outlook.

However, the DeskAway calendar on Outlook is ‘view only’. If I have to make modification, I will have to do it on my DeskAway calendar. Any changes made on my DeskAway calendar will automatically sync with Outlook.

DeskAway also gives you an option to manually sync the DeskAway calendar with any program that supports .ics format.

Now, after syncing my DeskAway calendar with my Outlook, I am totally in control of various deadlines and events that I manage on DeskAway. As a user, one thing I like a lot about business offerings is their ability to morph themselves into places I frequent, into applications I use extensively. This increases my adaptability and usage of that product or service.

Search for the perfect project management software

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Read how Michele Corey, an entrepreneur zeroed-in on DeskAway as her choice for the perfect project management software.

“The search seemed long and as I watched the hours count down I became more and more frustrated.  Many of the project management software programs I found were offered too much, seem complicated and are really geared towards a project manager or larger company.  If I purchased their “solo” person package I didn’t even get the features I wanted.  Some wanted your email before you could even look so I immediately said good bye.”

……

Once I had this list I was easily able to look for what I wanted and found it with DeskAway.

If you’re trying to figure out if on demand project management software is for you check out these 10 reasons why you may want it from Deskaway.
