The Hanging Gardens of Mumbai

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Hanging Garden is one of the prettiest gardens in Mumbai. It is a daily haunt for many people especially elder folk. They go there to meet, walk, chat and have a good time.

Well maintained, the hedges are carved into different shapes of animals. It is a good place to spot butterflies, moths, birds and insects.

4 tips for team software adoption

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

690px-gnu_meditate_levitateLot of times I find myself introducing a new software to a team and see it received in a very lack-luster way. To make it popular and get everyone in the team to use it can be a task! These are some of the tips I find helpful:

Personalize the introduction: Make an introduction and pep the team to use it. Add some personalized info about the product like “these people are based in San Diego or they have an interesting blog or I had an email chat with their founder, Bob” The team should feel connected to the product over time.

Get the net wiz: Ask the net wiz in office to give the tool a whirl and generate some excitement about it. He can give a small 101 talk about how to use the tool to get the team started and troubleshoot simple queries.

Create a support process: The team should know where to go when they face a problem. So set up a clear process about who they can contact for help within office (the net wiz?) or on the companies support page as the case maybe.

Benefits & Value: Explain to the  team how they will benefit from the software and what specific value it will provide the business. If the tool saves time, then, show them how. By actually experiencing the benefits, adoption will be a lot more smoother!

Are there any other method you use for adopting a new tool in your workplace?

DeskAway Migration Sunday October 25, 2009

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

We are planning on moving to new servers (with the same hosting company, Rackspace) on Sunday October 25th, 2009 and will be conducting a full migration between 10:00 PM Saturday October 24th, 2009 and 6:00 AM Sunday October 25th U.S. CDT. During this time your DeskAway account will be unavailable. We hope the migration will not take this long but are providing a buffer just in case we require more time. Once the migration is completed and everything is working on our new servers, we will be switching the IP address on the Rackspace DNS to point to the new servers (we have already lowered the TTL to 5 minutes). Unless your ISP (Internet Service Provider) takes time to update the new IP address of deskaway.com, you should be able to again login to your account without any delay. Our team will be working all day this Sunday should any one of you’ll need help. We will keep you’ll updated through this blog, our Twitter account (@deskaway) and on GetSatisfaction.

We appreciate your patience and hope you understand that this is important for making the switch to bigger, better and newer servers. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
The DeskAway Team

sometimes doing what you love isn’t enough to keep you going. Inspiration, passion, and motivation are difficult things to hold on to. They always seem to slip away right when you need them most.
