DeskAway Feature: Access your Google Docs from within your projects

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Last year we announced the integration of DeskAway into the Google Apps Marketplace™, Google’s online storefront for Google Apps™ products and services. What this meant was that you could easily add your DeskAway account to your Google Apps™ account and access all your project communication without having to sign into DeskAway through a separate browser every time.

In the last few weeks we have gone a step further and integrated Google Docs with your DeskAway account. This means you don’t need to shuffle back and forth between two systems - DeskAway to track project communication and Google Docs to create documents and spreadsheets. With the Google Doc integration you can easily add and update your Google Docs right from your projects!

We think this will help you simplify work and centralize your project work even more.

Check out more information and videos on getting your Google Docs to show up in your projects here.

Hope you like this addition!

Let’s assume, you are adding a calendar event on the Calendar page and while you are adding the event, you wish to add a task for any of your team members , you need not navigate out of the page.

You can simply, click on the “Add Tasks” link (just left to the “Quickies” link). Assign the task to your team member by selecting the required project and task list from this Add Tasks window.

Similarly, you can add & assign tasks from all the pages of your DeskAway account.

By using this feature it will save lot of time of navigating from one page to another to add a tasks.

law

It’s seldom that we associate Law with technology, you often see these smart suited, slick Lawyers walk in and walk out of courtrooms but we never know what goes on behind the scenes. And though these Law firm guys are quite meticulous in maintaining their file work and client details, they are laggards when it comes to work which is non-billable i.e. not associated to the client directly, reports Erick Mazzone in Here, There and Everywhere: Web-Based Tools for Managing Non-billable Projects”, published in Law Practice

Erik Mazzone is Director of the Center for Practice Management at the North Carolina Bar Association. A member of the ABA TECHSHOW Planning Board, he also runs the blog LawPracticeMatters.com.

He manages to capture the essence of project management software for Law firms through his article and goes about explaining different project management features and how it can be leveraged by the Law firms.

The great thing about the article is, he recommends DeskAway as one of the project management tools. This time it feels good that law has an eye on us.

Bugs Squashed

Monday, February 7th, 2011

A few small bugs that we fixed last week…

1. Free accounts could see Timer buttons

Since this functionality is disabled for free accounts we removed the display of the following links/buttons:

a. ‘Add Time’ form on the Time Sheet page
b. ‘Start Timer’ button on the Time Sheet Print Preview page.

2. Time log entry link navigation

Clicking on the Time Added action entry of any previous dates on the Dashboard or History section would always navigate to Today’s time sheet page. Now, it will navigate to the correct date’s time sheet page.

3. Adding time linked to a Milestone

Add time to a task (by using the Start Timer) that is linked to a milestone. Then go to that Time Sheet page. Here the Milestone name would not show up. This has been fixed.

4. Adding time to FreshBooks

Add a time linked with a FreshBooks task and without refreshing that page update the time again. The newly updated time was not reflecting on the FreshBooks page. This is fixed.
