DeskAway getting a new logo on August 1st…

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Don’t get surprised, if you see a different kind of a logo for DeskAway on August 1st. Over the last few months, we have been contemplating an upgrade to our current logo (see above) which was initially designed in 2007 over a cup of coffee, on a MacBook. It was good enough to help us launch DeskAway. Though, recently, we have felt that it does not adequately convey the brand. Hence, we are upgrading our logo on August 1, 2010.

We wanted to design a simple logo with a very simple idea - to convey a feeling of freedom, happiness and a zen-like state, when you are in control of your work from anywhere i.e. away from your desk. After working with a designer for over a month, we are proud to have zeroed in on what is to become the new identity for DeskAway.

Stay tuned for the announcement and designer’s notes here on August 1st.

A few bugs we fixed this month…

Editing  comments with links:
When adding or editing a link in the file version and comments area, the text would then display HTML markup.

Timezone problem in Issue Comments:
If a user added a comment to an issue then the comment time was showing incorrect for another user who belonged to a different timezone. For older comments, this issue will still occur. New comments should work fine.

Login Cache Issue
After downloading a file from your DeskAway account if you directly logged out or closed the tab then your browser wouldn’t allow you to login again. It would keep asking you to download the same file again.

Moving into our new office…

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

We moved into our new office on the 1st of July, a stone’s throw away from Kala Ghoda - an area in South Mumbai with gorgeous Victorian style buildings, heritage structures, cafes and a lot of restaurants.

In India, before starting anything new we normally do a small ‘puja’ - with the idea of giving a gift or offering to a deity and receiving their blessing. The puja consists of a simple worship of offerings, such as an offering of light, water, incense, sweets/fruit and including a small aarti (lamp ritual) afterwards.

We wish the entire team good luck and all the best going forward!

A few bugs we fixed this month…

When creating a Project name with a ‘un-capitalised’ first letter the application would display the name with a capitalised first letter on the project listing page.

Task comment timestamp:
If a task comment was added via email, then the timestamp would sometimes show inaccurately only on the task detail page.

Dashboard display of Issue comments:
When adding a comment to an issue the comment appears on the Dashboard with the text “New file by you” even if there was no new file uploaded.

Adding a template to a project error:
When adding new projects from the template it would sometimes show the following error: “Error: Team Insertion”.

Search Contacts:
Only one company would show up in the search results even if there were other companies with similar names e.g. ‘DeskAaway 1′ and ‘DeskAway 2′ with the same names (e.g.

iPad Display:
Updated the redirection script to recognize iPads so that the iPhone version of the site is not shown to iPad users.

BaseEscape Error:
In some conditions there would be a ‘Team Insertion’ error whenever you use BaseEscape to import your Basecamp projects to DeskAway.
