Time Management and Productivity

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Just came across this interesting article at Terry Starbucker’s blog, on productivity and how to make best use of our time. He has also noted down a few points that should help us with prioritizing our actions.

In any day there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of actions you can take.   Which ones you choose are critical to living a productive life, or being the most productive person at the office.

It’s the art of constant prioritization – a mental “to do” list that goes through a special kind of algorithm, a kind that only a properly focused  human brain can pull off. Read More.

Better Workplace for Better Work

Monday, February 16th, 2009

A few improvements in the workplace can go a long way in relaxing the environment for your team and probably boost productivity in the long term.

It is not necessary to go for big renovation jobs to change the ambiance of your office. Here are some simple tips towards making a better and lively work environment.

  • Changing the look of your office. This can easily be achieved by putting some accessories like candles, flower vases, pretty picture frames or toys (the free stuff you get at conventions/conferences).
  • Using scented candles and incense sticks can be very refreshing while working! Generally lemon or lavender are the preferred scents.
  • Listening to music something light and soothing. If others are not in the mood for it then you can use head phones.
  • Have comfortable desk chairs and places around the office to lounge and catch up with your colleagues.
  • Keeping the place neat and tidy will give a more organized and coordinated feel to your work. Moreover people will also appreciate this. Seeing a mess on the desk or elsewhere in a office can be a big turn off and it would make you feel overwhelmed and stressed.
  • Clear your computer Desktop icons from time to time. You don’t want to see those Word documents floating around whenever your reboot your machine. Additionally, why not try a soothing wallpaper?
  • Plants are a great help, since they provide a very organic and healthy look to the office. Bamboos are considered to increase productivity of the work place and are considered lucky. :) Give it a try and watch what happens..
  • Instead of your regular tea/coffee why not have an assortment of green teas - relaxing and good for your health.
  • Making the place look like its your own by putting family photographs or other things important to you around the place, giving it a personalized and a homely touch.

5 Ways DeskAway Can Help You Weather The Storm

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Times are tough for businesses all around the world. What you need now is an efficient way to run your workplace. Here are 5 ways in which we think DeskAway can help.

1. Pay as you go - Why not pay a smaller amount over a few months rather than a one time initial payment? This will be light on your pocket and will give you enough steam to get through the tough times. Better yet, try the free plan as long as you can and only upgrade when you need more horsepower.

2. Cut down on IT & other peripheral costs - Since there is nothing to download or install you can do it on your own. You can pretty much run your entire business with DeskAway and a couple of other online tools. We use DeskAway, iContact, Google Apps, WordPress etc. to run our business. This is the best time to get your non-technical people involved with web tools.

3. Free Upgrades - Paying for upgrades is expensive. With DeskAway, we upgrade our software once a month and its absolutely free. Wake up the next morning, login to your account and enjoy the new features instantly!

4. Less email clutter - Your team and you are as it is frustrated with cutting costs and the last thing you want to do is to manage your projects via old-school email. Wouldn’t you wish you had a system that would remind your team when things are due? Or even give you a consolidated view of your work progress daily?

5. Increase productivity & efficiency - When your team works in a systematic-manner, things get done as planned. More work gets done in less time. There is less confusion and everyone is happy. You have a smooth functioning workplace.

We would love to hear if DeskAway has helped you in any other way.
