How are you using DeskAway and what value is it providing your team? Were you using any other tool or method before DeskAway?
I use DeskAway to assign tasks to our developers and also check the progress of tasks. We have weekly releases and each week we have a new Task List with the development tasks for the week. I also use DeskAway to store important documents and information about our system and architecture.
The value DeskAway provides is tremendous because most of our development team is dispersed geographically and in different time zones, so we are able to stay organized in a distributed virtual office environment. DeskAway also helps us easily communicate with the other members of our executive team (e.g. ceo, marketing, etc) what our development schedule looks like. Furthermore, the ability to re-order task lists and assign priority to certain tasks allows us to easily communicate which tasks are more important than others.
Before DeskAway we were managing tasks mainly by emails and spreadsheets.
Can you give a specific incident or example when DeskAway was really useful when managing or getting a project completed?
One time we had a code sprint where we were re-designing the entire site design and we had to do it in a short time span. In addition to a number of other ongoing tasks, DeskAway allowed us to properly schedule and organize the tasks related to the re-design project.
Was there a learning curve associated with DeskAway? How did your team adapt to a new application?
There has been a learning curve for other less tech savvy people to learn how to the use features of DeskAway but because I have been familiar with the product for a long time I helped them understand some of the features that make DeskAway so easy to use, like emailing tasks into the system and simply replying back to email threads generated by DeskAway in order to properly record all email conversations associated with specific tasks.
What features does your team use the most?
The features our team uses most are the Task Lists, DeskMail.
Are you emailing (sending tasks, attachments etc.) less because of DeskAway?
Yes, DeskAway has helped us minimize the burden of managing projects via email.
How has DeskAway helped in lowering project costs, profitability or improving efficiency?
Overall DeskAway allows us to maintain a virtual office for our development team who are distributed all over the world, from the Ukraine, India, US and China. The ability to leverage the best talent regardless of geographic location inherently provides our company cost savings because of the agility of the company. We don't have to house all the developers in an office location and we can easily bring new talent to the team and bring them up to speed quickly by using the DeskAway features.
